Meaning comes with belief.
It does not matter what you call them, because if I believe them to be signs – or rather, if I make them into signs – they are signs.
Signs from the past come back to me in the most unexpected ways. Are they signs? Are they just pure coincidences? Random memories that my mind sprinkles onto my consciousness? It does not matter what you call them, because if I believe them to be signs – or rather, if I make them into signs – they are signs.
This way, I can deliberately create magic in my life, which I am consciously choosing to do.
Placebo effect? Sure. The most powerful drug in the pharmaceutical industry. The drug that carries the power of human belief. Wouldn’t it be awesome to use its bliss to our advantage? I am going to work on that.
I want to believe that what happens to us has meaning.
Few facts.
Control group on placebo
Every drug tested in the pharmaceutical industry needs to have a control group – a bunch of people who take a placebo instead of the medicine. They don’t know that they are the control group, because they need to believe they are taking actual pills. They experience effects which are then documented.
That means that every drug tested in human history had a placebo-effect research alongside it. The most researched pill in the entire world is the placebo. And it works. The more bitter the pill, the bigger the impact it had on the patient.
Being part of the control group counts
Researching solutions for obesity required control groups too. The experiment goes something like this
Control Group 1 – visualizing the goal, working out, diet, meditation, talking to scientists, etc.
Control Group 2 – doing all those things and talking to each other about it.
Control Group 3 – doing nothing.
Well, I don’t remember exactly how it went, but you get the idea. I imagine the group that created a sense of community had the best results and preserved good habits for longer. Meaningful relationships keep us alive longer – that is well-proven fact too. Also, working out and diet are placebo as well – search the experiment on cleaning ladies.
What does it mean?
For many years, I have been trying to convince myself that things matter. I am on a mission to find a way to make my life meaningful. I think I am finally onto something. Or maybe I just believe so.
It does not matter. It will work ether way – because I am naive, and I will remain naive, because I refuse to harden up, and that is my biggest strength.
